Reporting to the Regional Network Manager, the Network LAN/WAN Engineer will respond to Helpdesk support requests regarding network hardware and software, network security, and connectivity issues. Provide timely resolution in order to minimize impact to business. Responsibilities include: LAN/WAN, Security, Windows Servers, IP Telephony, Wireless, Remote Access and Directory Services.

MAJOR SPECIFIC DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Respond to helpdesk requests regarding LAN and WAN connectivity and performance problems. Troubleshoot and resolve issues. Contact and interact with vendors regarding maintenance and support. Complete requisitions in order to purchase parts and equipment.

Monitor and respond to Local and Wide Area Network hardware and software failures. Maintain maximum system uptime for production systems and applications.

Maintain and manage LAN and WAN performance using network analysis tools to fine tune system performance or resolve issues. Maintain network security.

Analyze user needs, network traffic, system capacity and other data in order to design network architectures. Assist with moves/adds/changes as required.

Maintain and develop network documentation to include locations of routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points and servers. Maintain inventory of equipment configuration and OS levels.

Develop, implement and maintain standards for router, switch, firewall and wireless access point configurations, and OS backup and upgrade procedures to ensure optimum and consistent configuration and installations across the enterprise.

Provide project management and participate in the design, implementation, and support of the network infrastructure including coordinating projects with other departments and external organizations. Provide direction during the implementation of projects to technical support teams. Negotiate exact technical requirements with vendors and write technical specifications and proposals.

Test and evaluate new technology and applications as needed. Make recommendations to management.

Effective communication of standards, policies and procedures throughout global team.

Monitor and advise management on system misuse and potential abuse.

Mentor and provide cross-training for other team members.

Collaborate with non-I.T. business units to develop effective solutions to problems.


Requirements:

4+ years' technical and troubleshooting experience with Cisco routers and switches in medium to large corporate environment. Strong working knowledge of TCP/IP, IPSec, routing protocols, SNMP, VLans, Radius and network management tools is required.

2+ years' experience in the design and implementation of networks is required.

1+ years' experience in the support of wireless LAN technology (802.11b/g) is required. Strong experience with authentication protocols (PEAP) and encryption is preferred.

1+ years' experience in the design and support of VPN Concentrators, IPsec LAN-LAN VPN tunnels, and Firewalls (Cisco ASA/PIX) is required.

Experience and knowledge of Ethernet performance analysis and troubleshooting is required.

Current CCNA certification is required, CCNP preferred.

Experience with the configuration and support of Cisco enterprise chassis switches (4500, 6500) and is preferred.

Strong working knowledge of LAN and WAN connectivity issues and support in a Windows Server, Active Directory and SAP environment is preferred.

Experience with Cisco’s Voice over IP products including Cisco Unified Communications Manager (Call Manager), voice gateway routers, and IP Telephony endpoints is preferred.

This position directly impacts the availability of all production systems globally so 24 x 7 on-call support and a willingness to work off-hours and weekends is required.

This position will require some travel (10%) as on-site technical support will be required.
